As a style blogger, a career which has taken on a life of its own, time isn’t always on my side. I am always racing against the clock to meet deadlines, get to and from events, and fitting in all the errands. I have been using a productivity calendar that allows me . Constantly. and I bet a lot of you feel the same way. Whether I am running from the gym to the office or the office to post-work cocktails, time is an concept that is hard to grapple with.  Let’s be honest here. When you’re always on the go, the last thing you need slowing you down is wondering about your wardrobe. Right? Especially when you’re darting from your desk to dinner after clocking out. Here are a few surefire tips to take you from desk to dinner date in a snap.

How to go from desk to dinner

Since the ticking of time is inevitable, here are some styling shortcuts to maximize your free moments. Because we all have jam-packed days, here are my tips.

1. Start with the basics

When you get dressed before work, pick a simple piece that will be the backdrop for your outfit. Something with clean lines and preferably in a basic color like black is appropriate. I styled this draped Gant top with a black skirt, and added a pop of color in my accessories. Think of this item as the canvas upon which you will layer and load with interchangeable pieces.

2. Add for the office

Layer something on top of your look to make it office appropriate. I added a camouflage jacket, this one by L’Agence military camo jacket, for additional color other than all black. Pull the look together by adding a belt, and a pair of booties. This top also looks great with tailored pants.

3. Pack for Later

Bring along a playful pair of heelsa clutch or small cross-body purse, bright lipstick, and if it’s cold, an edgy jacket.

4. Freshen Up

When you’re en route to your post-work destination, powder your nose, add a fresh swipe of mascara to your lashes and gloss your lips. If you’re like me and keep a spritz of perfume in your bag, give yourself a quick, light spritz. Paint your nails. You’ll feel as good as new!

The key is to be able to interchange accessories and layers to create a new look. One of the best things I can suggest is picking out a few of your favorite staples and styling an “office” look with it and an “evening” look with that same piece. So when you’re rushing out the door to work, pulling together your desk to dinner outfits will be a no-brainer.
