Sneak-err

I was never one to get on the running-sneaker-as-fashion bandwagon as I actually was Melanie Griffith’s character in Working Girl back in the late 80’s when I commuted back and forth to my office. As soon as I exited that door, those heels were swapped out for kicks, a quick change, as comfort was the name of the game. Today on the Fashion Hunter, I give love to my lower extremities and convert to the sneaker-as-fashion trend brought to you by The Olympics 2012. My feet, usually blistered, defeeted (ha ha), and covered in Band-Aids, will thank me come Fashion Month when they are resurrected into my newfound shoes. Thankfully, as you know, Isabel Marant truly revolutionized that sneaker-as-fashion trend, as the wedge sneakers are... Read More

The Big Drop

In case you missed it, on Friday of last week, I revamped and designed the windows at Big Drop East Hampton, one of my favorite go-to shops for the party girl in me. In preparation for Super Saturday, I put together 2 windows: the first, an if only it was a sunny day maxi dress look complete with hands-free accessories for all-access shopping. The second window, was a prep for the Fall season, complete with layering materials including leather, jackets, and fur. I enjoyed dressing mannequins, inserting tickets in their hands, and dressing them in the Fashion Hunter‘s top picks (which are basically “me” dressed on an elongated white stick), and of course, providing them with copious amounts of jewels, all in an East Hampton storefront.... Alexander Wang

Happy August! Happy Hump Day! Summer ain’t over till it’s over, we still have a month left to be in that fabulous bikini sipping cocktails on the beach. But behold, today on the fashion hunter, on what could have been a very sunny Wednesday, but is not, I give you a Pre-Fall teaser a la Alexander Wang. This rather cagey new video is a quick reminder that Fall is nearly upon us, and the T-shirt master is at it again but this time he goes way beyond the basic tee. You see, designers have been hiding in their work caves digging under the trenches of neoprene fabric over the past few months while you were basking at the beach working in your cubicle. There, now... Read More

Clear On

From the Plexiglas heels on the runways this past season at Christian Louboutin and Rodarte, to the almost sheer handbags at Phillip Lim, it seems that everything from shoes to handbags are in a transparent mood. When else do you get the chance to view the contents of a stranger’s handbag, shampoo and tampons included?  It is a wakeup call to keep our contents neat and under control. It was just last week that I wore these PVC black Oscar de la Renta sandals. If you have been following my blog, you remember how I was boiling in the sun and as much as I enjoy wearing those sandals, Plexiglas doesn’t breathe, so sweat balls unabashedly poured out of my feet. So glad you noted... Read More

Game On

And I mean that in the Olympic sense and the Olympic sport of shopping. BTW, that shopping is not considered a sport is just out-of-bounds. This week on a boiling hot 98 degree humid July day, I styled baked in my favorite sheer white high-low dress with a ripped pair of jeans and attempted to do an Olympic size jump just for you under the Brooklyn Bridge. I was feeling sporty, and if ever there is a time for just that it is now. (More on that piece coming to you next week) The premise of this story is to feature how to layer your summer frocks into fall and what great things you can do with a simple white dress and some denim. I have... Read More

Printed Matter

While I love to stock up on classic staples, I also have an intense appreciation for all things fun and whimsical. Call me crazy, yes you can, but I’ve been known to throw on floral pants with a simple white tee one day, and a striped tee with denim overalls the next. My blog should’ve been called Cray Chameleon. That can be my next venture. By wearing prints, I am partly preparing for the prints that will manifest on my limbs come Fall. (See Prada) Blue jeans are the perfect companion, but when you want to shake it up a bit, and push fashion to its limits, I wear prints. Maybe its the crazy weather we are having, but all I feel like wearing is... Read More

Mad for Plaid

The dog days of summer aren’t over (kids aren’t home from camp) yet my inbox is filled with wooly and dark things that want to get onto my sweaty body. Among the sheep-inspired weaves, one of my favorite fall trends, plaid, has blown up in a big way. By blown-up I mean OVERSIZED. While plaid is nothing new, designers are kicking up the classic pattern a few notches. Marni, Michael Kors, and Stella McCartney, are among some of the designers ripe to take on the Burberry check. Lo and behold the mainstream designers will snap this up as back-to-school preppy plaids reign supreme. As far as I’m concerned, these plaids will be staples in your wardrobe for months to come so you may want to check... Read More
