On Cupcakes and Couture

When I heard the news that the Crumbs cupcake shops were closing its doors, I was wistful for the beginning of the cupcake mania when a sugar loaded, buttery-sweet, frosted, candy-colored confection was the ultimate divulgence.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment that cupcake mania erupted, maybe it was when Carrie Bradshaw sat outside Magnolia bakery devouring a cupcake and declaring her crush on Aidan circa 2000. Or, maybe not.

Whenever it began, America exploded into a cupcake frenzy. Then as all trends do, the rainbow-colored cakes morphed into tiny cupcakes a la Baked By Melissa, gluten-free options, and food bloggers dived right in, creating prize-winning instagram pics worthy of a treat. We were a nation obsessed, and I won’t miss them.

This week, that era officially ended  and the great cupcake wave has crashed. but if there is one thing I have learned and that is food porn gets just as many likes as fashion porn and this week’s Paris Couture was incredibly sweet. Cotton-candy-like gowns from Giambattista Valli, Chanel and Armani Privé (below) are just enough of a reason to admire the fluff, icing only, sans the caloric intake. Violá!

And just in case you are feeling the pastel love come on, here are some looks for you.

And here is me back then indulging in the sweets of yore. I switched from loving sweets to admiring kale and quinoa to keep my body and mind healthy.

Do you think that is a trend too? Write in the comments below.

Happy Friday!
