Kelly Wearstler

Renowned interior design guru, trendsetter, and now fashion designer, Kelly Wearstler, went raw for her Resort collection aptly titled “When animals attack.”  Known for her use of bold prints and bright color palettes, Wearstler went wild, adorning fabrics with claw marks, serrated teeth marks, tiger motifs, and plenty of camouflage. The preview was held in Wearstler’s showroom on the rooftop of the Starret-Lehigh building on 26th Street right off the West Side Highway, a respite from the midtown bustle. Take a peek at the small but refined collection below and see what I will be craving come next winter. Wearslter’s new favorite medium are sweaters because they remind her of tapestries. Can you say love?

Hints of safari peeked out from the collection and animal depictions on tees, pants, and sweaters had me envisioning animals engaged in battle on the Serenghetti. Perfect opportunity for the fashion hunter to jump onto her prey.

The event definitely had a New York vibe, but Kelly held court with her airbrushed skinny jeans, leather jacket and laid back Los Angeles look.

On Kelly: Kelly Wearstler Leather Moto Jacket, Kelly Wearstler skinny pants. On me: Rag and Bone denim dress, Christopher Kane x J Brand denim jacket, Dannijo bib.

For Wearstler, interior design and fashion work hand-in-hand and are points of reference for her self-expression. She takes inspiration from her interiors background, placing emphasis on textiles, color, and pattern. Fashion plays an important role in her visual sensibilities throughout her various homes and hotels. Obsessed with the Viceroy Hotel in Miami, I wanted to take the hotel’s renowned eccentric approach to interior decor home with me. Hashtag, not kidding. The dirty little secret?  You can purchase her home collection at Bergdorf Goodman, right here in New York (no hotel required).

She also featured her bespoke accessories line, and I fell in love with all of her horns and cuffs!

On the rooftop, I was able to observe Venus in transit right over the Hudson River. We humans were treated to a rare celestial event during which we were able to see one of the two inner planets of our solar system, Venus, pass in front of our Sun. PS — everyone at the party followed me (@nyfashionhunter) on instagram the moment I took this shot. So cool.

And there you have it.. I’m blowing in the wind in my own little Marilyn moment….
