From Lanvin: Fashion Firecracker

Shine! Need to inject some brightness into your life? Alber Elbaz at Lanvin is happy to oblige. For spring he offered an audacious display of shine — filled with lamé, satins, Lurex, and brocades— in the form of jumpsuits, gold jackets, blouses, and t-shirts all for our blinding pleasure. Tripping the light fantastic, the shiny heap in this collection was quite startling. It seemed to be a highbrow take on Eurotrash and resembled a discotheque in the South of France. I kind of like the idea of wearing a metallic jumpsuit in a cellophane-color in the year 2014.

Perhaps most shocking of the day was in the very beautiful shiny trashbag-style purses carried by some of the models. When asked about the purses after the show, for the record, Alber Elbaz deadpanned, “I don’t make garbage bags.” No, he makes very expensive, high quality, Hefty bags. If that’s the case you can bet I’ll be taking out the trash. I’m ordering a case as we speak. What was his message here? Go big or go home.

Elbaz offered fabulously chic clothes to suit every womanly inclination: refined and sexy, or butch and relaxed. A gutsy move on his part , Lanvin’s collection could’ve flopped, but did just the opposite. Lurex can come off looking cheap. Rather, it all radiated high glamour.
