Versace for H&M. Be Bold.

Christy Turlington. Photograph by Irving Penn, VOGUE, 1990. Last night Versace launched their collection for H&M. Another collaboration between mega fashion house and mass market retailer. A bad-ass rock-n-roll collection. And it is on its way to stores, November 19th. I think the whole collaboration between high fashion x mass market =  a deserving separate blog post on its own – but I am going to start here.

DANNIJO treasures

It is that time of year again when my inbox is getting flooded with sample sale invites. I bet yours is too. But if you are going to go to just ONE sale, this is NOT the one to skip.  DANNIJO, the edgy sophisticated jewelry line, is one of my go-to’s in the treasure chest that is my closet. I love wearing all my purchases from their line because they speak for themselves–making any outfit so très chic. Founded by sisters Danielle and and Jodie Snyder, their jewels are hand-made in New York. Even better, the showroom is chock-full of surprises and eclectic thing-a-ma-jigs.  When I last visited, they had both returned from a world tour that included far-flung places, such as Istanbul and... Run With It

If you have been following my blog, it is not really my style to write about athletic wear. Why?  Because I wear it everyday to workout.  It’s really boring.  Most moms with kids at school prance around in their ubiquitous black Lululemon leggings all day after they go to the gym. Granted, I don’t subscribe to runway perfection at 8am, but yoga pants after lunch just isn’t tres chic. Celebrity mothers, who are camera-ready watched by perhaps every blogger and photographer out there, have raised the bar. Angelina Jolie and Elle McPherson have become the poster mothers for classically chic school-run dressing. Sarah Jessica Parker walks her daughter to school in skin-tight Rag and Bone jeans. Gwyneth Paltrow tells all in her newsletter GOOP about... Read More

Date night

You only get one chance to make a first impression. Thats what came to mind when my friend asked me what she should wear on a date. I’m not one to dole out dating advice, and figuring out what to wear on a date is never easy. (I sort of kind of remember those days). Hard for me to judge because most of the women where I live are on pick-up and drop-off day time duty with their kids, perpetually wearing their black Lululemon yoga pants. No cue there. I say go for something sexy, flirty, and fun. Taking myself out of the equation, there are plenty of women out there who want and are desperate for Saturday night advice. If you want some other-than-fashion... Read More

One fabulous leather dress

I normally do not post a “Part 2” about anything (way too boring), but I’ve had many requests for a follow-up on my leather story. I was called onto post pictures of myself wearing my leather dress and how to style it correctly. Before I ever started blogging, I took pictures of beautiful runway clothing in showrooms for photo shoots, on the streets for inspiration, or for clients to hang on their wall so they would know what to wear on a daily basis. (I’m not kidding). So this one time I’ll surrender. Here’s a quick video (no voice over) that was taken when I wore my awesome black leather raquel allegra dress in town. I threw on a bunch of different accessories to show... Read More

Which Celebrity Wore it best?

Halloween is a holiday that allows us to celebrate our inner sorority girl – minimal clothing, maximum makeup, full-on drama. And the celebrities are no exception. I usually do not write about nor care about celebs day to day musings, but Kate Hudson’s annual Halloween bash and the costumes that appear are just magical. Celebrities and fashion-folk alike have begun trickling out of their castles, mansions, and forest lairs to host or hit up Halloween parties, collect their high-calorie holiday booty, and inspire jealousy-driven shut-ins like us to mock their outfits. Oh, and that Siri costume? Since it is a sheer white jumpsuit and the temperature outside is hovering in the 40’s, I decided to scrap it and don a Mary Kate Olsen. This idea is... Read More

A Fashion Costume for Halloween

Halloween is hauntingly near, exactly 4 days away, and if you, like me, are saving your costume prep for the last minute, fret no more. We do have the weekend. Every year I am faced with the inevitable challenge of coming up with the perfect Halloween costume. Ideally, I choose something unique that will set me apart from the sexy devils and the pack of zombies. As with every sartorial challenge, I recommend turning to the runways for inspiration (there were pilots, fairies, race -car drivers, and others this season). My costume planning usually starts around August, ( last year I was a stellar Lady Gaga), but this year I was much delayed due to various trips out of the country and building my new... Read More

Tom Ford – Fashion Etc.

Last Sunday I tuned into the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) to catch the documentary on Tom Ford, Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind. If there was ever a reason to watch the OWN channel, this was it. The documentary profiled Ford not only as a designer and icon in the fashion industry, but delved into Tom Ford, the man, revealing his innermost secrets. Ford,  notoriously protective of his brand and reluctant to give interviews, allows a rare glimpse into; his day-to-day life, his creative process, what leaving Gucci and YSL was like, and even a covert look at his Spring 2011 runway presentation. It’s a well known fashion industry fact that Ford is a perfectionist describing at length that he was born that way. He also admits that while he usually... Read More
