Celebs, Fashion and Charity Collide

Same Sky

Last night, while shopping in the Meatpacking district on a beautiful summer evening, I headed to the Matthew Williamson store where a Charity event was being held for Same Sky and FEED, 2 charities with big missions.

FEED ‘s mission is to create good products that help FEED the world.
FEED projects was started in 2006 when model and activist Lauren Bush designed a bag to benefit the UN World Food Program’s School Feeding Program, which feeds and educates hungry children. Now there are many bags and tees to choose from. All for a good cause.

Same Sky, a fair-trade company is equipping women across the globe with a life-changing tool: a sense of integrity. This is accomplished through empowerment and education.

Founded in 2008 by Francine LeFrak, Same Sky grew out of a film about the Rwandan genocide. She came up with the idea of jewelry making for talented impoverished artisans to financially and emotionally empower them.

Same Sky works with Gahaya Links and companies that employ HIV+ women, all survivors of the genocide. They aim to be a part of the global movement lifting women out of poverty by giving them the tools to become entrepreneurs and lead self sustaining lives.

After meeting one of the survivors and the founders of the organizations, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. And got an arm full of new baubles to boot!
