Stuck On A Uniform

Shopping is a highly addicting habit that will temporarily medicate situations, but the guilt will, in a surreal sense, haunt you forever. I don’t mean that the Sacai Luck faux leather mini skirt that I purchased for myself for my birthday last month wasn’t well-deserved. I can think about whether I need it over and over in my head, until it’s in fact, gone, and then I ultimately get that fear of missing out, the FOMO disease. Especially in the highly competitive, fleeting field of fast fashion, where one day its hot, and the next it’s not, I’m doomed. There should be a drug for this problem to combat this addiction.

As self-proclaimed fashionistas, we like to display our skillful abilities to put together outfits.

I’m a stylist!

I’m a blogger!

I’m an artist!

Hey, I’m just into it?

These function as a testament to our being “good” at fashion. In order to do that though, one must wear clothes that will help enunciate the points we’re making, and to wear those clothes, we need to have acquired them. That acquisition comes often by way of purchase. Or even begged and borrowed. And for obvious reasons, that can be confining.

So very recently, instead of buying things, I’ve been trying to own them emotionally by posting pics, owning by way of Pinterest and Polyvore, and confessing my newfound love for them. This experiment is in order to determine whether I have the FOMO disease, if I will feel a sense of proprietorship, and therefore appease my desire for brick-and-mortar ownership.

I’ve succumbed to an all-black everyday simple black knit, a trusty flippy skirt (whether leather or faux), black combat boots, and knee-high socks. Because you don’t want to be the only moron on the streets without leg coverage. Luck has it that now that it is getting cold out, hello Mid-October, and black is such a staple.

Emergency red lip butter, black eye pencil, and a spritz, for the pre-holiday press appointments, when they want to take your photo for their social page, and a clenching bite for Halloween that says, I’m all teeth for Halloween.

I’m trying to stay within the confines of those great pieces in my closet, and the quirky at best, that I currently own. This should be able to take me through the chilly weeks ahead. For the record, I caved last weekend and got a Helmut Lang black chunky turtleneck sweater, and a pair of J. Crew white toothpick cords that I have been highly coveting and Pinning for the past few weeks.

The jury is still out but I’m leaving my credit card at home when I go out and just window shopping. At last glance, this is still in BETA version–a test drive is currently taking place. How about you, what drives you to shop?

Whatever, here goes.
