Lemon Zest

When you think of summer you think of a cold beer, a glass of rosé, and a refreshing glass of lemonade. It’s hot, you’re in a good mood, and the long holiday is fast approaching. What a better way to celebrate the season of sunshine than throwing on a pop of yellow?

As Jonathan Adler says in his book Happy Chic Colors “One yellow Gerber daisy in a bud vase = Prozac for your pad.” Known this season by its Pantone ID of Lemon Zest, the runways were full of this bold hue, (See Stella McCartney, Erdem, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana‘s lemon pants!) which I personally love. If you recall I posted about the bold color yellow back in January when I was “feeling blah” went ahead purchased this yellow coat, and proceeded to wear it unconditionally. Yellow as a pop color worn monochromatically looks awesome, but pulling off a head-to-toe look in one screaming hue can be tricky.

Time to smell the proverbial daffodils. See Dior’s look from Spring below.

For his nod to haute couture, Raf Simons looked to Dior’s archive creating a jacket fitted close to the body with this yellow number. The cut and drape are as sleek as a tulip’s stem. Not one to mistake couture for something it’s not, I appreciate all the workmanship and the head-to-toe monochromatic color so present in this look.

Yes, wearing a head-to-toe look can be tricky, but I decided to conquer this by going for the gold. With a pair of yellow overalls, it’s a win-win for summer.

For me, a big wearer of black or white this season, wearing this in New York City is a hoot. Houston is a city of color, not NYC. It was a perfect day to show up in these yellow overalls at the village parade. For the cool points. Hey Adam and Eve were on to something with that forbidden fruit. Why not go bananas!

Think lemon drops and  sunshine, and loads of color.
