How to Wear Leather

Chic and stylish, leather is showing up everywhere and no longer just in the accessories department.  Leather is appearing on shirts, shorts, tops, dresses, and of course, jackets. With the plethora of styles showing up, (hello metallics, laser-cuts, colors, and trimmings) there’s a leather investment piece out there for everyone. No longer relegated  to some punkster’s wardrobe, now ultra feminine and glamorous women can get in on the leather craze too.

You don’t need a Harley  to jump on this season’s biker trend, but it sure wouldn’t hurt. Whether you pair yours with lace or spiked boots, you’ll have trouble making it through fall without a leather jacket. If that staple’s well covered in your closet, add pants courtesy of Rag and Bone or Helmut Lang or don a sexy shift. Think Marianne Faithfull’s “The Girl on a Motorcycle” or “Easy Rider “for inspiration—or just head to your local biker bar for total cultural immersion.

There are few things as totemic as a black leather biker jacket. Even ZARA is in on this trend.

One of my favorite looks from this season comes from Barbara Bui. There were great motorcycle jackets with zip-off fur hems. But a girl, warrior or not, cannot live by coat alone. Though a drop-dead chic one can score you a lot of mileage, these are pretty badass.

If you want a pop of color in your winter attire, try a proper leather  coat dress in tangerine orange, sky blue, or candy apple red from Loewe.

You can also pair a silk dress with tough-girl accessories like these no-nonsense leather gloves from Vera Wang.

Channel your inner Fonzie. Urban Dictionary states a “Fonzie” is somebody that is cool. Of course, if you’re cool you already know that.
