Groovy Freaks

Skulls left to right: Blue SkyMono and Me, Year of the Boar, Isabel Marant, Net-A-Porter, Converse, ASOS

Ah, I bet you are thinking that’s me: a groovy freakkkk. My brain, crammed with too many thoughts causes my skull to freak out. So killer. So where am I going with this? We all know by now that the right accessories can make or break an outfit. The sartorial trimmings that have been catching my eye of late, are these little howlite skulls– the groovy freaks. The symbolic skull first appeared in the Grateful Dead logo. It then became hardcore punk. Remember the ubiquitous skull and crossbones that adorned belts, sneakers, and keyfobs? I do. Then the fad turned teenage emo. And now that gothic symbol of yore has turned into a major trend of now and is adorning the wrists of many fashionable folk. It is a great way to add some edge to your outfit du jour. These skulls come in a variety of vibrant colors like green, pink, purple, orange, and yellow and also vary in size and price. Alexander McQueen shows skulls (I’m pining for the twin skull gold bangle), as does Isabel Marant and Pamela Love. Be forewarned,  the fad will soon be a distant memory, just like the Grateful Dead is now. Badass for sure, and a certifiable way to get in touch with your inner rock star. Get thee in the goove.
