Wow did I love Charleston. It’s right up there with New Orleans on my one of my favorite city lists. It is clear that I love a colorful city with a penchant for good cocktails, awesome food, and southern hospitality See more.…Until I can convince my husband and kids to abandon all of our responsibilities, rip up all of northern ties, and move south, I’m going to have to live vicariously through my photos, friends that live there, and my strong desire for frequent travel. Major wanderlust is to blame. When it comes to traveling to new cities, it’s always fun to explore like a local. How to Charleston like a local? Read on to find out.
How to Charleston like a local
Exploring new cities is so much fun, map in hand. Charleston has so much spirit mixed with a fun, infectious personality. Try out the best spots to grab a drink, those hidden gems with the tastiest local fare, and browse the racks at the city’s coolest boutiques.
Where to Eat
Here are my tops places that we hit during our long weekend.
The Grocery. When Husk is not an option, The Grocery does the job. A laid back open-air style restaurant, the seafood was fresh and
The Obstinate Daughter. We explored the beach at Sullivans Island and fell upon this charming spot. A must-see !
Darling Oyster Bar Fresh oysters off the boat? Duh.
The Mcintosh. The best Bloody Mary’s in town, eggs, and such for brunching fare.
Where to Stay
The Dewberry had the best service hands down in any recent hotel stay.
What to Do
Take a historical tour of the city. It was the most knowledgeable way of getting to know the city, in all its historical and architectural glory.
Where to Shop
Last but not least on the Southern Charm hunt, I hit the ground running upon arrival right into the air conditioned stores. Based on recommendations, here is where I went and ended up getting lost. More than that, the owners have a great eye and every item is swoon worthy.
Great shop, excellent service and top notch designers like Zimmerman, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Proenza, Kirkwood, Stella.
What I Wore

Head to Sullivan’s Island Beach
It was a fantastic day trip and I can’t wait to go back. I was inspired by the spirit of being wild and free while I was away and want to make my summer theme “fearless.” Thoughts on this?
Thanks to my husband for booking all the reservations, and my local friend Lily Sykora for all the recs!
